David vs. Goliath vs. Saul: How Faith Intersects with Revival and Renewal

Ruth 2

Dr. Michael Vanlaningham

1 Samuel 17

Why did David fight Goliath instead of Saul?
David cared and protected his father’s sheep. [1Samuel 17: 20-34, 35]
David’s previous experience caring for his father’s sheep set him up to be successful caring for the people of Israel.
Saul did not care or tend for his father’s animals, he quit. [1 Samuel 9:3]

David knew his Father, God and His promises. [Exodus 23:27 & Duet. 7:17]
Saul had the same scriptures but either did not know them or care about them.

David ran toward the battle because he knew the promises. [1Samuel 17:48] David acted on the promises of God [1Samuel 17:40]
Saul was afraid because he did not know or trust the promises of God [1Samuel 17:11 & 24]

Saul saw Goliath from man’s perspective.
Reminder::There is always a diving perspective.
David saw Goliath from God’s perspective.

Do not be afraid – Keep in mind the battle is the Lord’s – Keep in mind His promises || believe in Him
